An introduction to my bunnies.

The story till now ....

Earlier i brought a pair of bunnies of which the female was pure white & the male was white & spotted black. I named them Mickey & Minnie. They were both around 8 months old, active & playful. They lived together with my pigeons in the same cage below the pigeonholes. They used to chase the pigeons, get chased & never hurt them. A week after they came, a cat tried attacking them in the cage. It wasn't able to get in or break the cage since I'd got it built very strong, though all the pigeons survived, Mickey, as most bunnies are weak-hearted, died of an heart attack. :'-(
Minnie started feeling lonely & stopped playing around for some time. So, to get her friends, we got another pair. Of the other pair, The male was white with brown spots & the female was white. So, i named them Bugs & Lola. Lola had already been pregnant for 28 days when she had come. Minnie made good friends with her & I didn't understand what Bugs bunny wanted since he kept chasing Minnie. 3 days later, lola gave birth to 5 little bunnies ! They were extremely small, ping in colour, looked like small pigs, with no hair yet & started crawling out as soon as they were born ! Since Bugs was a nuisance to Minnie, she was kept inside the house. Minnie was clean, never chewed anything & treated a particular corner in my brothers room has her toilet !
She was clever as she could identify the dirtiest place of my house & use it as her toilet ! She liked to rest while sitting under the dining table during the afternoon & at night she preferred to jump into her basket which had a nice bedding tailored specifically for her !
So, The small lilttle bunnies who were newly born survived well. They started to grow hair & grew fluffy. They liked playing around in the cage & held each other to make a ball while sleeping. Of them, two were white - both girls, a girl with black spots & 1 ear black, 2 boys spotted black with both their ears black.
They were named Snowy, Snowball, Spotty, Timmy & Patch Respectively.
A month after they were born, it was a very severe cold winter, Patch died due to the cold winter & on another cold winter night, snowball escaped into a nearby hole. The following day, Minnie also escaped into the same hole but Bugs & Lola did not. So now, Minnie left us after staying with us for a long time & we were eventually left with a family of 5 rabbits. Out of the 5, Snowy is the model - Ms. Bunny 2009 with a big picture of hers which you can see to the left. !

What are Rabbits ?

Rabbits are mammals of the order Lagomorpha. They are found in many parts of the world. They live in families and eat vegetables.

A male rabbit is called a buck, and a female is called a doe. A baby rabbit is called a kit, which is short for kitten. Sometimes, children call a rabbit a bunny.

Some people have rabbits as pets, especially the cottontail rabbit. In some parts of the world, people eat them. Some of these areas include Scotland, Ireland, England and Australia, where they are often considered to be pests.

Most rabbits love carrots, but most of a pet rabbit's food should be rabbit pellets from a pet store.

When a female rabbit is pregnant, it will take about 31 days for the young to be born. The mother will pull fur a couple of days before they are born, to make a bed for the babies. Different breeds of rabbits have between 1 and 15 bunnies at a time. The babies can be handled carefully after they are born.

There are rabbit breeders all around the world who breed rabbits to show them in rabbit shows. At most local fairs with animal shows, there are also rabbit shows.

A rabbit given hay or straw as bedding will also eat it. White shavings should be used on wooden floors. Wire floors are also used, and they do not hurt the rabbit. These floors are self-cleaning; the feces falls through to the ground under the cage, where it can there be shoveled up once a week. The wire has to be cleaned once a month, to make sure all harmful bacteria are gone. Some rabbits can be trained to use a litter tray, just like a cat, and can live happily inside with the family, but should be kept separated from other animals, such as hunting dogs or poodles, that are very likely to attack the rabbit.

Rabbits should be protected from the weather. They do not like wind. They can live in the cold, but they would rather be kept inside a warm house or near a heater in a barn. In very hot weather, rabbits like to have a frozen water bottle in their cage so they can lie beside it and cool off. Two bucks (males) cannot be housed together, because they will fight each other. Two does (females) can be housed together, since they will not usually fight. A buck cannot be housed with newborn bunnies, or he will eat them.

Rabbits have very delicate hearts, and can have heart attacks easily. Some breeders have said their rabbits died from heart attacks when they smelled a bear nearby. Rabbits can also break their backs very easily if they get excited or suddenly frightened.
